Why is my flush mount ceiling light fixture flickering?

A flush mount ceiling light flickers because of a dimmer that does not match the lamp, a loose splice, or a failing bulb or driver. Shut the breaker off if the canopy is hot or smells.

  1. If it is steady at full brightness and flickers only when dimmed, change the dimmer or use an on/off switch.
  2. Reseat the bulb, or use an enclosed-rated LED if the shade is closed.
  3. With power off, tighten the wire connectors.
  4. If a sealed fixture still flickers on a plain switch, replace it.
