Why does my ceiling light cover keep falling off?

A ceiling light cover falls off because it is not seated on the fitter, the screws or finial are loose or stripped, or the cover is the wrong size. Turn the breaker off before you stand under it with the shade in your hands.

1. Cut power at the breaker.
2. If the screws miss the groove, the cover is the wrong fitter.
3. Tighten the finial or thumbscrews until the bowl is firm and level.
4. If the stud spins or the screw holes are worn out, replace the fixture.

Can I glue the cover back on?

No. Glue hides a stripped fitter and makes the next bulb change dangerous. Repair the attachment or replace the light.
